The Whoopee Hook & First Mate Awards go to...
(for previous
awards)
We're a little backwards this month! Our February 2011 Whoopee
Hook goes to...

As a crew mate of PharmBoy, Erik DeSimone nervously nominated his boat’s
Captain, David Riban, for the Whoopee Hook award this month. Although it
is true that the Captain is ultimately responsible for the safety of the
crew and the vessel (see DBBC vs.
Joe Gallagher, 2010), Captain Riban successfully argued that several
mitigating factors were admissible in this case. Most significantly
Captain Riban clarified “accountability,” in that “failures of routine”
(i.e. negligence) demanded a “duty to warn” [the Captain], and that this
duty was indeed breached by the crew mate. The majority of the club
members agreed. With this confidence, Captain Riban turned to nominate
Erik DeSimone as recipient of the Whoopee Hook. The membership
overwhelmingly agreed, and the motion passed.

and the First Mate's Award goes to Captain Dave Caracci for
towing the Chaplain and his bride on "Yes Deer" to the nearest marine
gas station after they "thought" they ran out of gas... thanks Dave, we
owe you!
