The
story of the Traveling Manatee...

Many of our newer members may have heard
mention of a manatee that travels mysteriously from home to
home. Being a new member myself, I sought out the origin
of this manatee from the original owners, Mr. & Mrs. Dick Grimshaw.
This is how the story goes...

"In 2006 the beloved traveling DBBC manatee
was a gift to us on our 50th wedding anniversary from our
dearest friends in DBBC. Over the years they had listened to
Dick expound on his "pet peeve" about boating - THE MANATEE. Obviously his prejudice upset the little fellow, and one day the
manatee just left our house. Looking for more placid water, she
has traveled to the Funks ... appeared in the Klindt's kitchen
... arrived at the Tanges' lake ... returned to the Traudt's
riverfront home and on to McKernan's and Bowden's and Blake's to
name a few places. Concerned for the health and happiness of
her young-un she seems to be still searching for love and the
best location to raise her baby. It is always a mystery how she
travels.
Hopefully, someday she will forgive Dick's
tirades and realize he is mellowing and return home. Meantime
please treat her with care and assist her in her search."
