Our
second Annual Blessing of the Fleet took place on a beautiful, sunny day. The boats began to gather in the
South Basin of Halifax Harbor Marina as 9:00 a.m.
approached. Chaplain Rick stood at the gas dock (also
known as the poop station as someone pointed out on the
radio!) He said an opening prayer asking for safe travels
for all our vessels (and I'm pretty sure he added a private
prayer for our Bahamas trip coming up!) He then blessed a
few boats "in abstentia"(one of you teachers help me out
here? Rick says it's a word) - Yes Tony and Gena,
we REALLY DID bless your boat! Then, as each boat
approached the dock they and their crew were also given a
blessing. We had a total of 15 boats blessed,
including 2 guests who heard about the Blessing from the
Marina. (there is a photo of every boat being
blessed on our Walgreens Photo site - please
email me if you forgot the password!) As the boats were blessed, they headed
to our usual spot in Ponce Inlet, "Down The Hatch" for
lunch. Commodore Ken knowing that the Chaplain's boat
would be close behind him to the Bahamas decided it would be
a good idea to bless "Yes Deer". THANKS Commodore! We had a great crowd
for lunch, and what a joy to
have so many children around us playing and having fun!
Some lucky devils then went on to Disappearing Island to
hang out and spend the night "on the hook". We are
still not speaking to those people - you know who you
are! If anyone has photos from D.I. please send to
me and I will post here.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
We look forward to a very safe and successful year of
trips, and perhaps next year we can have even more
guests join us in the Blessing!
